STRIKING ART STUDIO USE POLICY
GROUP EVENTS / PRIVATE STUDIO TIME / OPEN STUDIO TIME

I have included the following informational section to help set the expectations for persons wanting to use my studio outside of my standard class format.  Please click on the Studio Opportunities to review a complete listing of class offerings that are possible. I look forward to hearing from you!

I offer four options for you to book an event or time in my studio:

• Studio Tours ~ Free with Advance Reservation required (can include a 30 minute segment of trying your hand at a basic glass process for a $10 - $20 fee per person)

• Group Events at $60/hour plus materials & kiln fees

• Private Studio Time at $40/hour plus materials & kiln fees

OR 2 students share time at $20/hour each plus materials & kiln fees

Includes one on one instruction (shared instruction when time is shared)

• Open Studio Time at $15/hour plus applicable materials & kiln fees

Requires pre-approval by Instructor & advance reservation

Note:  I also offer Open Studio Time for Encaustic & Collage enthusiasts. Please contact me for more information and for current encaustic studio dates.  Rates are at $15 per hour ~ 2 hr minimum required, plus a $10 materials fee per 2 - 4 hour session.  Normal production is expected ~ mass production is not allowed unless you wish to arrange paying a higher materials fee.

Before being allowed to work in my studio, you must adhere to the following:
• Complete the Studio Waiver at the start of your studio time.

• Adhere to the Safety Info noted in the Studio Waiver you signed, or you will be asked to leave the premises without refund of any monies paid.

• Pay your studio charges in full BEFORE the start of each session. You will not receive your finished artwork until any additional charges you have incurred are paid in full.

I am well experienced in teaching the glass classes & workshops that I offer in my studio and I do my very best to ensure your success in learning as you experiment with a new process; however, the success of your actual glass work is dependent upon many things that are not within my control. As such please realize the following:

• Unexpected results and even failures can and do occur, especially at the beginner & intermediate levels, but sometimes due to interference from another piece of work in the kiln, unforeseen events, OR just because the kiln has a mind of its own as does the glass.  These things happen even to the best of artists, and as such refunds will NOT be given under these circumstances!

• I will NOT fire a mold in my kiln that was not made in my studio, NO EXCEPTIONS!

• I retain the right to refuse service to any person or group for any reason.

Once we get the Studio Waivers & Safety Procedures out of the way, let the fun begin!!

STUDIO TOURS

Please call at least a week in advance of when you would like to tour my studio.  With advance permission, you are also welcome to watch a class in progress for a short time period so long as it is not disruptive to the class work.  If you would like to pre-arrange a studio tour that includes trying your hand for 30 minutes at a basic glass process, I would ask you to pay a $10 - $20 fee per person depending on the materials used (no guarentees you would create a piece of art, but it should be fun!)  Please contact me by phone or email if you are interested!

GROUP EVENTS
Contact me for more information if you would like to book a class or workshop as a special event with your friends OR as a team building project with your co-workers. With advance planning, I can tailor many options to meet your group’s specific needs!

• You do NOT need to have taken any classes with me for you to book a Group Event.

• I take 4 students max in the Flameworking, Beadmaking, and Kiln Casting classes, and prefer 4 students (6 max) in Fusing, Frit Casting, and Jewelry Making classes.

• Rate is $60 per hour with a 4 hour minimum required for a Group Event with reservation, plus the costs of materials and kiln fees for the class.

• Deposit of $240 is payable with reservation ~ remainder is due before class starts.

PRIVATE STUDIO TIME (PST)
Private Studio Time is offered to students who want to gain more in-depth knowledge on a specific process, learn new techniques or processes beyond their current skill levels, or just have hands-on help as they work on their own projects in a one on one setting with the instructor (see fee plan below).

• Private Studio Time must be reserved in advance after discussion with me.  I will let you know the fee due at start of session for your project’s expected time & materials.

• Only one student will be in the studio with the instructor to allow for individualized attention.
• NOTE:  Two students may arrange to book the same time slot where each pays at a less per hour rate plus materials & kiln fees ~ 2 hr min applies to both.  Obviously with 2 students, my time & attention will also be shared.

• 2 hour minimum required for PST reservation (true for one or two students)
~Student will be charged full reserved time plus time that goes over session end
~Time must include setup, cleanup, & proper return of all tools & supplies
~Additional ½ hour will be charged to student if instructor has to do these tasks

• Fee for PST is calculated as follows:
~$40 per hour reserved (1 student) + Glass & Materials + Applicable Kiln Fees
~$20 per hour reserved (2 students) + Glass & Materials + Applicable Kiln Fees
~Kiln Fees:  based on firing cycle costs and % of shelf space used per piece fired.

OPEN STUDIO TIME (OST)
Open Studio Time is offered as a way for my students to work on their own projects while practicing skills learned in one or more of my classes. Students should already know the basics of where materials & tools are located in my studio, how to use the equipment necessary to their process, and how to perform the work required for their project safely. I will be in and out of the studio to supervise as needed & will answer basic questions or lend a hand if a student gets into a jam, BUT if you need more hands-on instruction time OR you want me to work with you on your project, or you want me to do one of your projects (mold up) while you do the other, please either retake the relevant class (as many times as you like) OR book Private Studio Time with me.

With that in mind, you must have taken the relevant class with me in my studio at the level of work you want to practice AND have demonstrated that you are competent in the skills and processes needed before you will be allowed to book Open Studio Time.

• If you do not meet the above criteria, you will be required to either take the relevant class in my studio OR schedule Private Studio Time (2 hour minimum) with me so that I can assess your competency level and work habits before I will allow you to schedule Open Studio Time in my Studio ~ NO EXCEPTIONS!

• I retain the right to refuse service to any person or group for any reason.

Upon meeting the above criteria, the following policies apply for Open Studio:

• All student work will be discussed with me BEFORE Studio Time is reserved, so that I can let you know the fee (due at start of session) for your project’s expected time, materials, and kiln usage.

• Expect that there may be other students working in the studio at the same time (on similar or totally different types of art processes) during Open Studio Time.

• 2 hour minimum required for OST reservation

~ Student will be charged full time reserved plus any time that goes over session end ~ Time must include setup, cleanup, & proper return of all tools & supplies

~ Additional ½ hour will be charged to student if instructor has to do these tasks

• Fee for OST is calculated as follows:
~$15 per studio hour reserved + Glass & Materials Cost + Applicable Kiln fees

(2 hour minimum applies)
~Kiln Fees: based on firing cycle costs and % of shelf space used per piece fired.

NOTE:  Students who are currently enrolled in a 4 class series for Flameworking or Beadmaking in my studio, may reserve Open Studio time at the same rate of $15 per hour, but materials and kiln use costs are free while the student is actively taking one of those two classes (the 2 hr minimum still applies).  All other students enrolled in other class series may reserve Open Studio time under the guildlines listed above.

Email is the best way to contact me with questions about the info on this page. I look forward to arranging time with you for a Class, Workshop, Group or Studio Event!

• Rates are based on firing an 8x8x2.5inch refractory mold, 4 molds per kiln load

This size mold is for an approx 6x6x1.5 inch clay (or wax) tile model

• Larger, thicker molds require longer firing & annealing times, so higher Kiln Charges
